They are talking and they head to the actual fair grounds together. He seems to be some invited personal guest of the mayor. Everett enjoys the festivities, keeping an eye on Ellis Fairwell as he did so, waiting for the man to need to take a leak or something.

Everett follows, doing his best to look inconspicuous, looking around to see if there were any potential witnesses.

Not really. People in Jackson make...unreliable witnesses unless heartily bribed.

Everett sneaks up behind the man relieving himself, drawing his Arkansas toothpick from its sheath on his belt. He attempted to put his hand over the fop's mouth and have at him like a stuck pig.

He stabs him several times and the man's flailing only results in him falling into the river. He struggles and soon expires, floating down the waters.

Everett curses under his breath and tries to reel the corpse back in. He had a ring finger to cut off. Assuming he could drag him in, he'd check his pockets as well. Not like the bastard had use for his cash anymore.

He pocketed the cash and ring finger, before inspecting the paper, allowing the body to float downriver now.

It pollutes plenty of water and feeds many fish. His ring is plain unadorned white gold. The muddy water dirties his clothes which sucks.
